e-Commerce or how do customers get your information?

Extranet is the slogan for the contemporary linking of customers or suppliers to your information infrastructure.

This can be realised, for example, via "e-Commerce" solutions:

"e-Commerce" means:

  • Selling something via the Internet
  • Trading via the Internet
  • Exchanging information via the Internet and
  • Offering the customer comprehensive support via the Internet.

In this case, it can involve business transactions in the "Business-to-Business" (B2B) segment or the "Business-to-Consumer" (B2C) segment.

In this case, the largest growth rates are forecasted for the B2B markets:

"During 2006, online sales rose among commercial customers in Germany by 36 percent to 392 billion euro. For the year 2010, the forecast is approx. 636 billion euro. (..) 30 percent of all goods and services traded in western Europe via the Internet were sold domestically in 2006. Great Britain follows at 18 percent."

The development in the B2C segment and particularly in Germany naturally is also ramping up.
As the Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung (GfK) [Company for Consumer Research] stated in March 2007 in Nuremberg, German consumers "spent more than 15.3 billion euro during the past year for goods and services which they purchased directly via the Internet. That is substantially more than in the previous year. Thus, the Internet continues to be the sales channel with the highest growth dynamic."
